I hate yoga

I hate yoga. But that doesn't mean you won't find me at Gold's gym Monday and Wednesday nights in my spandex pants, barefoot, mat in hand.

I don't know what it is about yoga that makes me both hate it and love it all at once. Maybe it's the fact that my body was not meant to bend those ways. I'm serious. I am furthest from the bendy yogis you'll find on every San Francisco street corner.

I don't know, maybe I love it because I'm bad at it. Growing up, I was 'a natural.' I was pretty good at everything I tried. Then as I grew older, I stopped doing the things I was just okay at, and kept doing the things I was really good at!

I think that's where all grown ups end up. We end up doing a lot of things we're good at, and being pretty successful. But I think it's important to do things you're bad at.

When was the last time you tried something new, when you knew you'd probably fail? When was the last time you did something because you liked to, and not because you enjoyed excelling at it? How often do you put yourself in uncomfortable situations and give yourself opportunities to grow?

I think as adults, we get really freaked out by that stuff. When we're young it's no fear. Everyone's still awkward and weird in some way, so you don't notice it so much. But when we're older, everyone's pretty much got it together, so looking awkward, uncomfortable, or stupid is extremely magnified.

I'd like to think that by doing things I'm bad at, it keeps me young, fresh, and alive. I mean come on, it's fun to be bad at something if it's just for fun, right?

So go out and do something you struggle at, and be fine with it.

Let yourself fail. See what it feels like.

Nobody's good at everything. It makes you more human. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to set new goals, and laugh at yourself until you reach them.
