It's Complicated.

I have the greatest family in the whole world. I really do! This weekend I got to fly home and be with my family to hear my little brother give his farewell talk before he leaves on his mission. (He doesn't leave till next month, which is why I'm not a complete wreck quite yet.) I can't believe he's all grown up and ready to go!

You see, he's been my 'big little' brother basically my whole life. I think for a few year between the years when i was 2 & 4, we were the same height. ever since then, the gap between our heights has only been growing. Although he's been a foot taller than me most of my life, he's still my little brother, and it's hard to believe he's that old! We've has so many adventures together! When all the other brothers were on their missions, then married, Tanner, Amy and I were the only ones at home. Then when Amy got married, it was just the two of us! It's crazy to look back on the awesome times when we were all so little.

I feel like everything was just simple. I know you're thinking, yeah yeah we were kids, of course it was simple...but no really. The world was less complicated. There were Power Rangers and Ninja Turtles. Tennis Shoes or Skate Shoes. Bed time was at 9:30 (10 if we were lucky) and getting ready for the day consisted of finding clothes to wear and pulling your hair in a pony.

So simple.

I guess thats just a part of the plan, though. You grow up, and your life becomes complicated. First you start to care about school, you have to care about your future. Then you bring boys into the equation. Ohh boys. They sure complicated life, huh. You go through Jr high, high school, and then all of the sudden BOOM college. Now is when money starts to matter. You are expected to have your own opinion about just about everything. Politics, fashion, your future. It's no longer 'what do you want to be when you grow up?' its What are you going to school for? Where are you interning this summer? Where do you want to work when you graduate? Not only this but, when are you going to get married?  (oh kill me.)

But at this point, we've all become too selfish for this to be enough. We have ambitions, we have out 'bucket list' and we convince ourselves that life isn't great without traveling the world, having the best of things, and basically getting whatever we want as soon as we want it.

That's really where this world is going. Immediacy. We want what we want, and we want it NOW. There's no saving up, putting change in a jar, and waiting till we have enough to go buy our newest toy. Writing letters, leaving notes, patience. That just doesn't happen.

It's a crazy world out there, and its only getting more complicated. Keep your friends close, and your family closer! Remember what's important. Anyway, I'm going to miss my brother. I'm gonna miss him a lot! But you know what they say, missionaries leave their families for 2 years so other can be with their families forever! I'm gonna miss that kid for 2 years while he serves the people of Argentina.
