20 Recipes to Try This Fall

Photo: Pumpkin Spice Peach Crisp I made last year

I think part of why everyone loves fall so much is the feeling of new and change that comes with it. Looking back on when I was in school, the feeling of the weather changing always came with the excitement of new classes, new friends, new crushes, football season, cuddle season, and best of all, the beginning of the holiday season. When you have those experiences every year, the feelings stick with you. That's what I think anyway.

In addition to all the excitement of change and the beginning of the holidays, one of the best parts of this time of the year is all the fall foods! I've made it a goal to try to cook seasonally (we're talking fruits and vegetables), so when this time comes around I look forward to trying new recipes! In anticipation, I've made a list of my top 20 recipes that I'd like to try this fall. 10 Meal type foods, based on fruits or vegetables in season, and 10 desserts! If you end up trying any of these, PLEASE let me know so we can swap experiences, recipes, and ideas!

I linked most of the recipes below, and I made a "20 Fall Recipes 2015" Pinterest board you can see all of these ideas and the recipes I plan on using! Also, if you have any tried-and-true recipes for any of these, please share!

Only a couple months ago, we had a bachelorette party for one of my best friends, Morgin, and I tried someone's Butternut Squash Ravioli, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since! I've never made ravioli before so this should be fun!

I can't tell you how many times I've tried a beet salad and it tasted like dirt, but I still loved it. For some reason I'm determined to make a delicious beet salad that I enjoy. Getting my husband to like it would be a miracle!

If you're going to eat a salad, it might as well be full of flavor and nutrition. This seems like it has both, and I've had my eye on it for a while. Since Brussel Sprouts are a fall veggie, now seems like the perfect time!

In college, curry was my comfort food. It was my up-late-working-at-school food. I've always wanted to try to make curry but I've always been too nervous! I've had this recipe saved since last year, and I've been waiting for butternut squash came in season to try it! I love the fact that it's a vegetarian curry, since I've been trying to find more delicious meatless meals! The mild flavors are a plus, since my husband isn't as obsessed with Indian food.

This is another recipe that appealed to me because it was meat-free. I am by no means a vegetarian, but I like to find nutritious recipes that don't require meat. I also want to learn more soups! They make great leftovers. With Cauliflower being a seasonal vegetable, and one I've never really loved, this is a chance for me to break out of my comfort zone.

6. Homemade Bread Bowls (looking for a recipe!!!)
Winter means sold, sold means hot food, hot food means soup soup soup! What makes soup 10x better? Eating it out of a bread bowl. I haven't found the recipe I want to try, so if you know of any, please share!

7. Sweet Potato Shepard's Pie (family recipe)
Growing up, one of by favorite home-cooked meals was my mom's Shepard's Pie. She recently told me that there's a version with sweet potatoes in it. I don't remember eating it as a kid but hey, it sounds REALLY good to me!

I feel like a good broccoli cheese soup should be a staple meal, right? I mean, I didn't grow up eating it very often but I feel like everywhere I go has has an awesome broccoli cheese soup. I've never had Panera Bread's soup but this is (apparently) a copy-cat recipe that I'm going to try.

Okay first of all, what the heck is an Acorn Squash? I feel completely clueless going into this one, but I'm ready to learn! Looks good too, right?

WHO doesn't look some good sweet potato fries? I'm just sick of having to go out every time I want some!

Treats:

My mom always makes dehydrated apples with cinnamon. I don't have the means to do that, so this looks like a pretty good replacement and a healthy delicious snack!

I've never made a full-size pumpkin pie, but I figured I'd leave that one up to Costco. These mini pies look so good, and remind me of the mini pies that Ginny feeds Harry Potter in one of the last movies. Not ashamed. They look good!

Do these look good or WHAT? I'm just ready to make some hot chocolate to put these puppies in. Or hey, why not just eat them plain?

4. Homemade Caramels (family recipe)
One of the absolute best parts of the holiday season beginning is the fact that no matter which one of my cousins' house I'm at, there are homemade caramels. My aunts have this crazy (delicious) thing about making these every year, and all of them do it! Since I'm away from home, I don't get to partake in this tradition, so I'll have to make them for myself!

I'm ususally not a fan of treats that have you buy pre-made dough. I always tend to think it tastes a little sour, and I'm usually not a fan. However, I think with these you add enough to it, that they'll make a yummy fall treat! Especially on a Saturday morning.

Apparently this is like a staple dessert in England. I wouldn't know, because I've never lived there. But anything with bananas, toffee, and whipped cream is something I can get on board with. Does it scream Fall? Maybe not. Do I hear is screaming "EAT ME!" Absolutely.

Apple Pie + caramel, in cookie form, and easy(ish) to put together. Need I say more? Plus, how cute do they look with the lattice? How many cookies do you know who have a lattice?

I always worry about putting cooked fruit in things because I usually don't like the texture of cooked fruit. But every time I try an apple cinnamon muffin I'm in love. Time to try it out for myself!

9. Caramel Apple Spice (Starbucks Copycat)
I usually can't finish an entire hot chocolate, but give me a tall Caramel Apple Spice from Starbucks and I'm set. They remind me of New York City because whenever I've been out there, I'd have one every single morning while others were sipping on their coffee. We'll see how this copycat recipe measures up!

If we're being real, I've been needing an excuse to finally make these. Caramel is fall right? They just look perfect.

Well there you have it, 20 new recipes to try this fall. Good luck! I don't forget to share any recipes you've tried too!
